Tillamook® Hits Route 66, Proving Great Cheese Is Always Worth the Detour

Tillamook brought a little bit (or a lotta bit) of Oregon’s award-winning cheddar to Route 66 with a larger-than-life roadside celebration in Flagstaff.

We believe great cheese is made by taking the long way. And that’s what inspired our recent Cheeseside Attraction, a larger-than-life roadside landmark on the Route 66 Cheese Trail. Set among the pines at Flagstaff, Arizona’s Americana Motor Hotel, the massive replica of a Tillamook Medium Cheddar Baby Loaf® gave road trippers, locals and cheese fans an unforgettable place to pull over, snap photos and celebrate our award-winning cheddar.

At the unveiling event on Saturday, August 29, visitors gathered to experience the new landmark, sample Tillamook Cheese, take photos with our oversized Baby Loaf and try a limited-edition Tillamook menu at the hotel’s Far Out Food takeout window.

The Tillamook takeover extended across the property through September 7, bringing our brand into the guest experience from check-in to poolside to the plate. Guests received Tillamook Ice Cream Bars at check-in, while the heated pool transformed into a Tillamook pool party with branded floats and towels. Locals joined the poolside fun with day passes available through ResortPass. At Far Out Food, our limited-time Tillamook menu gave guests another reason to linger, with road-trip favorites including the Spicy Tillamook Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich, Tillamook Sharp Cheddar Wedge Salad, Grilled Cheese featuring Tillamook Whole Milk Mozzarella and a local root beer float made with Tillamook Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

Our limited-time Tillamook Cheeseside Stay gave dairy lovers the chance to turn the Route 66 pit stop into a full-blown cheddar getaway, with Tillamook-inspired décor and custom touches creating a one-of-a-kind overnight experience.

During Labor Day weekend, visitors stopping by between September 4 and September 6 also received Tillamook samples for the road while supplies lasted, adding one more cheesy sendoff to the detour-worthy experience.
